Café Bavard
Do you have a passion for the French language and/or culture? Then you are invited to come along to one of our regular Café Bavard's. We generally meet in a local cafe for coffee and conversation on the first Monday of each month at 10 am. You don't have to be fluent in French. Although we try to speak French, our conversations alternate between French, English and Franglish. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and the coffee is always good.
French Film Evenings
Alliance Française French Film Nights are not to be missed for all French cinema lovers! Two or three times per year, we screen a movie in French with English sub-titles. The evenings commence with a shared dinner at 6 pm, then the film at 7 pm, with a pause for dessert and coffee around 8 pm. Members are requested to bring a plate to share for dinner and it is BYO drinks. There is a small cost for non-members. Information of upcoming film evenings is emailed out prior to the event.
French Trivia Day
How is your knowledge of all things French? Discover how much you know or not at our French Trivia Day held once per year. Everyone brings along a plate and we enjoy a luncheon together before dividing into teams. Everyone is able to participate as the questions are in English. There are several rounds of questions covering a diverse range of topics. It's always a lively, fun day as the teams vie for the best scores after each round and perhaps a chocolate or wine prize!
Bastille Day Dinner
The National Day of France, more commonly known as Bastille Day in English, is a national holiday in France celebrated on July 14 every year with fireworks and parades. We never let the day slip by without some sort of celebration. It might be a luncheon at someone's home with shared platters, or an evening meal at a restaurant. Everyone is welcome to don a beret, pull out your best striped shirts and celebrate with us.
French Cooking Class
Who does not love French food? We are introducing a French cooking class into our activities. During a three-hour hands-on experience, we will learn to create the delectable textures and flavours of French cuisine. An experienced chef with guide us through the process. Afterwards, we'll enjoy the amazing three-course meal we have created. We hope to make this a regular event each year.
Other Events
Alliance Française d'Atherton is an active group always promoting and offering social and cultural activities for our members. One new event in the pipeline is a fun afternoon of pétanque, a French game of bowls. Information on all upcoming events is emailed to members.
